From Gaborone, the capital of Botswana, the passengers were reported kilometers on their way to the town of Moria for an Easter service. Around 300 kilometers (190 miles) north of Johannesburg, on the Mmamatlakala mountain pass between Mokopane and Marken, the car lost control and crashed off a bridge, according to South African state broadcaster SABC.

After touring the scene, South Africa’s Minister of Transportation, Sindisiwe Chikunga, told reporters that an investigation would be conducted by the government to ascertain what caused the tragedy.
Chikunga said: “During this trying time, our prayers and thoughts are with you. “As more people use the roads this Easter weekend, we continue to encourage responsible driving at all times with heightened alertness.”

President Cyril Ramaphosa urged people to “do our best to make this a safe Easter” in his Easter greeting to South Africans.
