Ohaneze Ndigbo Worldwide under the Leadership of High Chief Chidi Ibeh, MFR, is sobbing over the systematic, extra-judicial massacres of Igbo in recent times by Nigerian Security Forces, Fulani herdsmen and unknown Gunmen are mind-boggling, 29th September 2021 IGBO DAY CELEBRATION has been cancelled and replaced with “IGBO DAY OF MOURNING”.
There will be no fanfare, no jubilation and acrobatic cultural display as obtained from the annual IGBO DAY CELEBRATION in the past few years, ” This is to inform all Igbos about the cancellation of 2021 “IGBO DAY” slated to hold in Enugu, Anambra & Port Harcourt respectively on 29th September 2021 and urged Ndigbo to observe the IGBO DAY OF MOURNING in remembrance of all IGBO MARTYRS both at home and diaspora, whose lives were caught off at their prime during Operation dances(1,2,3,&4), by Fulani herdsmen, Obigbo/orlu massacres, in the North by Boko Haram and Bandits, the mood of Ndigbo nowadays depicts mourning both traditionally & religiously.
2021 “IGBO DAY OF MOURNING” is themed ” “OZOEMENA” in replacement of the “IGBO DAY CELEBRATION” themed ” AGWO NO NA AKIRIKA”. The Mourning will feature activities like lectures, Day of tributes for fallen Martyrs/Heroes. There are attempts to commit ethnic cleansing in the name of fighting against the IPOB, the ongoing secret killings across Igboland must stop and God will restore peace and security across Igboland as we openly mourn them.
Ohaneze Ndigbo demands the unconditional release of bodies from mortuaries ( especially in Imo state) of igbos wrongly killed as suspected IPOB members to the families for burial rites, ” We sympathize with Abia State Government and families of (a)Former Head of State, Late General JTU Aguiyi Ironsi over the demise of former First Kady, Victoria Aguiyi Ironsi,(b) Former Premier of Eastern Region, Dr Michael okpara over demise of Former First Lady Adamma Okpara, (c) Former Military Administrator of Lagos & the Imo states, Rear Admiral Ndubuisi Kanu RTD. May God give the families of the deceased, the fortitude to bear the losses”.
