Former Ekiti State Governor, Ayodele Fayose has mocked the President Muhammadu Buhari administration for condemning the latest Transparency International (TI) report on Corruption Perceptions Index in Nigeria.
Recall that Transparency International (TI) in its 2020 Corruption Perceptions Index (CPI) ranked Nigeria as 149 out of the 180 countries assessed
The body noted that the CPI revealed that persistent corruption was undermining health care systems and contributing to democratic backsliding amid the COVID-19 pandemic.
But the presidency, in reaction on Thursday, insisted that the report was not an accurate portrayal of the facts on the ground.
It noted that the government was aware of “the characters” behind the body’s verdict, adding that their opposition “is not hidden”.
Reacting on Twitter, Fayose on Friday said Transparency International has established that under Buhari, Nigeria became the headquarters of corruption.
According to him, it is illegal and morally unacceptable to refer to Buhari as Mr. Integrity because he has failed in securing Nigerians.
He said, ”When the President and his APC gang labeled the PDP govt of President Jonathan as corrupt, they relied on reports by the Transparency International (TI). Then, the organization was right and its reports were credible.
”Now under Buhari, Mr “Integrity and Corruption Fighter”, the same Transparency International latest report placing Nigeria as the 2nd Most Corrupt country in West Africa is no longer credible.
”Transparency International has now established that under Buhari, Nigeria has become the HQ of corruption. At this point, it’s illegal and morally unacceptable to refer to Buhari as Mr. Integrity. He has equally failed in securing Nigerians. Therefore, Buhari’s integrity my foot.”
