Political Officer in the United Embassy of the United States of America in Abuja, Jerry Howard, today Tuesday November 03 2020, visited the Member Representing Arochukwu/Ohafia Federal Constituency intheHouseofRepresentatives, Rt. Hon. Uko Nkole and held extensive deliberations with him on current developments in Nigeria.
Hon. Nkole is an Alumnus of the United States International Visitor Leadership Program (IVLP), a program of the United States of America State Department that invites future leaders from all over the world to America for leadership development. Alumnae of the program remain key contacts persons for the American Government to understand developments in their country.
In the course of the visit, Hon. Nkole explained the background of the #EndSARS protests and the eventual negative turn to the American official.
Hon. Nkole also updated his visitor on the unfortunate damage to public and private properties wrought in Abia State by hoodlums and urged the American Embassy to support Abia State Governor, Dr. Okezie Victor Ikpeazu in his bid to rebuild the damaged properties.
Hon. Nkole also made a special appeal for assistance to the youths of Arochukwu/Ohafia Federal Constituency by way of capacity development opportunities and other available programmes of the United States Government.
Earlier in his remarks, Jerry Howard, Political Officer, United States Embassy in Abuja said he was in the office of Hon. Nkole to consult with him on the events that led to the #EndSARS protests and the eventual deterioration.
Mr. Howard said he came to consult Hon. Nkole because as an IVLP Alumnus, Hon. Nkole had the expertise to sieve through the legion of varying information and pick out the actual facts of the situation.
He promised to consult with his colleagues at the Embassy so that they can agree on the shortest possible date to visit Abia State to consult with Governor Okezie Ikpeazu and the youths over the effects of the development in Abia State.
He assured of the continuous support of the United States Government for strong institutions in Nigeria and the provision of opportunities for youths especially to achieve their dreams.
The parties agreed to meet in Abia State to explore areas of further cooperation.
