In line with the need for maintenance of the structure of equity for which Abia State politics has successfully thrived upon since 1999, and in effort to uphold fairness and political balance in the state, arguments and reasons have continued to support that the rotation of power which has been shifted back to Abia North should rest on a Governor of Ohafia extract.
According to a communique sent to OTVNews by Mben Political Assembly (MPA) after their meeting, it is obvious that this question has been given credence in all ramifications of the argument, especially given the fact that Ohafia people have been shortchanged in development and in the political affairs of Abia State, a circumstance which all stakeholders expect to be corrected in 2023 when Abia State will produce a Govenor of Ohafia origin.
In view of the abovestated realities, it becomes incumbent on the Ohafia Clan to harness, lobby, coarse and negotiate with all stakeholders in the Abia State project in effort to build bridges that will ensure that equity and balance in Abia State political space is upheld. This is one system that has made Abia State to remain one of the most politically safe states in Nigeria, devoid of rancour and political violence that have become a culture in many climes.
In that resolve, the political stakeholders, opinion moulders and stalwarts of Ohafia have continued to jaw jaw to ensure a coordinated, purpose-oriented and tactical approach to the lofty dreams of a better Abia State.
From a well constituted virtual meeting of Mben Ifwu ndife (a.k.a “Mben”) under the auspices of Mben Political Assembly and consequent upon the MPA Hot Seat event which held from April 3 to April 15, 2020 and followed by a meeting in which leaders of MPA, Ohafia Summit, Ohafia Improvement Union Inc, OIU ONO USA, Ohafia monarchs and other illustrious sons and daughters were present, some lofty decisions were taken.
Contrary to unfounded assumptions and campaign of divide and rule syndrome against Ohafians, all Ohafians have this time united in their resolve to compete with other interested clans and work very hard to produce an Ohafia person to succeed OVI as Governor come 2023, according to the communique sent by Chief Emele Onu, Director of Media and Publicity of the MPA.
With one heart and mind, they henceforth refuse to be labelled as people that are politically disunited and torn apart, which others have preyed upon to make Ohafia appear as “Nde pa mmini oba, amaghi ife eji mmini oba eme,” they said in the document signed by Dr Lucas Eme Uche Onu, President of the MPA, HRM Emmanuel Kalu Onugu, judicial secretary of the Odumeze Ohafia in Council and Rev. Daniel Imo of ONO, USA, among others.
Profoundly and rightly so, all Ohafia politicians have agreed to put any differences behind them and work together in the political interest of Ohafia clan with a greater resolve to move quickly in the march to Abia Lion house as no stone will be left unturned in this legitimate pursuit of a better Abia State of equity and political balance.
Also, reecognizing the daunting magnitude of this political project cum the challenges expected between now and 2023, Ohafia shall collectively work in synergy politically, leveraging on their tested practice where the whole of Ohafia Udumeze unite to confront challenges facing them with determination to work hard to produce the best candidate among her qualified sons as Abia State deserves only the best, and thus, shall offer nothing to Abia State but the very best, they said in the communique.
