Members of the People’s Democratic ParPty (PDP) in Ohafia today successfully held their elective Congress at the Ohafia Local Govt. Secretariat in Ebem Ohafia.
The Congress which was held to elect new Executives of the PDP in Ohafia saw Hon. Emmanuel Agwu Ukpong emerging as the new Chairman of the Party.
Mr. Agwu Ukpong pulled a total of 120 votes to beat his rival, Mr. Udonsi Kalu Eke who pulled only 10 votes.
Mr. Ugochukwu Ezeocha who is the PDP returning Officer from Umuahia declared Mr. Agwu Ukpong winner having pulled the highest number of votes in the election.
In his acceptance speech after being declared winner, the new PDP Chairman in Ohafia, Hon. Agwu Ukpong who hails from Asaga Community thanked members of the party for finding him worthy for such an important and sensitive position. He promised to work hard to reposition the PDP in Ohafia and at the same time solicited for the support of every member of the party to move the party forward.
Earlier in their separate speeches, the Deputy Governor of Abia State, Rt. Hon. Ude Oko Chukwu (Ph.D) and the Deputy Speaker of Abia State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Ifeanyi Uchendu enjoined every member of the PDP in Ohafia to embrace peace and show love to one another for the success of the party.
According to the Deputy Governor, the PDP has provision for 18 exco members ranging from the Chairman down to the Ex Officio members. He assured that the 35 percent slot reserved for the women as enshrined in the party constitution must be strictly adhered to.
The Ohafia PDP elective Congress attracted the presence of the Deputy Governor of Abia State, Rt. Hon. Ude Oko Chukwu who is the leader of the party in Ohafia, the Deputy Speaker of Abia State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Ifeanyi Uchendu, the Commissioner for Budget and Planning Abia State, Hon. Kalu I. Uduma, the TC Chairman of Ohafia LGA, Hon. Fred Eke Idika, the Special Adviser to the Governor of Abia State on Security Matters, Capt. Awa (Rtd), the outgoing PDP excos in Ohafia led by Chief John Okocha, PDP state excos of Ohafia origin, INEC representatives, the Police, DSS and other observers.
