Residents of Zarada Sabuwa village in Jigawa State were thrown into chaos on Thursday following the murder of village chief Ahmad Muhammad and his wife Hauwa Ahmadu by their son Munkaila Ahmadu.
The incident occurred in the Gagarawa local government area of Jigawa state.
Jigawa State Police spokesman Lawan Adam said the suspect, 37-year-old Ahmadu, killed his father and mother with a wooden mortar.
Police said the deceased parents, Mr. Muhammad, were in their 70s, while his wife, Hauwa, was in her 60s.
The police spokesman said the arrested suspect also injured two other people in the community. He identified the injured as Kailu Badugu, 65, and Hakalima Ahmadu, 50.
While a motive for his actions could not be determined, police said they have detained the suspect and launched an investigation.
Mr. Adam said the deceased was taken to Gumel General Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
The injured are also being treated.
“The suspect was arrested and the exhibit was recovered.
“The preliminary investigation revealed that Ahmad Muhammad and Hauwa Ahmadu turned out to be the biological parents of the suspect.
“Police Commissioner, Jigawa State Police Command Aliyu Tafida has ordered that the case should be transferred to the criminal investigation department immediately for discreet investigation and possible prosecution of the culprit,” the spokesperson said.
