Shettima clarified that the board would be tasked with evaluating and controlling food costs in addition to keeping a strategic food reserve to keep the prices of essential grains and other food commodities stable.

According to him, the occasion validates the government’s initiatives to lessen the consequences of climate change and guarantee Nigerians’ access to food.

Shettima pointed out that one of President Bola Tinubu’s eight priority areas for his Renewed Hope Agenda was food security.

He stated that as a result, a state of emergency regarding food security was declared.

He outlined the administration’s continuous policy changes to guarantee the accessibility and affordability of food and water.

“Our immediate, medium, and long-term policies have become our response to the impending food crisis.

In order to mitigate the effects of the elimination of subsidies, the short-term strategy calls for reviving the food supply through targeted measures including the distribution of grains and fertilisers to farmers and households.

In order to ensure year-round food production, it also involves promoting cooperation between the Ministries of Agriculture and Water Resources. Additionally, it involves tackling price volatility by establishing a National Commodity Board.

“This board will monitor and control food prices continuously, keeping a strategic food reserve to stabilise the cost of essential grains and other food items.”

He gave his word that the Tinubu administration was dedicating all of its resources to restoring degraded land.
