LAGOS – Global Initiatives for Good Governance, a non-governmental organisation (NGO), has said that the victory of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) at the last week’s governorship election in Osun State was due to the non-performance of the All Progressives Congress (APC) led government at the centre.
Dr Emeka Kalu, the Direct-General of the group in a statement to journalists said that the victory of Senator Ademola Adeleke of PDP at the polls showed that the APC-led government failed to salvage the country from economic woes as expected by the electorate.
He lamented that the government at the centre since 2015 was yet to unveil any scheme that would lead to the fixing of Nigeria, insisting that the result of the Osun guber poll was a clear testimony of the fact that Nigerians were fed up with the unprofessional system with which APC is piloting the affairs of the country.
He added: “Take it this way; Oyetola’s administration has not impacted Osun people leading to their passage of a vote of no confidence on him as manifested in the recently held governorship polls.
“The collective votes of the good people of Osun State in favour of PDP in the governorship election was an indication that APC had drastically polluted things while sheepishly pretending to be restoring the distorted system.
“During Dr Goodluck Jonathan administration, the foreign exchange rate was affordable with prices of food items comfortably within the reach of an average Nigerians, but today, the reverse is the case. When PDP was in power, we had a balanced budgetary system, huge savings in foreign reserve account, efficient sovereign wealth administration, transparency in national income accounting and financial reporting.”
Kalu reiterated that free and fair election was always a yardstick through which popularity of an individual was measured, which he said was on display with the Saturday’s poll.
He insisted that the narrative has changed and the people were ready to speak up against injustice in the land.
He predicted that with the current deplorable of the economy, APC may likely lose the presidential election in 2023 and other positions vyed for across the country.
