After the bold call by Senator Enyinnaya Abaribe for the resignation of President Muhammadu Buhari and his government for failure to deliver on their promises since 2015, especially in the area of insecurity that has resulted in the death of many Nigerians under their watch. A lot of reactions have trailed it to date.
In a statement issued from his Abuja office and signed by Comr Amos Kalu, his aide on media and publicity, a foremost and outspoken PDP Chieftain Chief Dr. Emeka Kalu, has commended Abaribe for speaking the mind of many downtrodden Nigerians who are already cowed by the highhandedness of the present administration.
Dr. Kalu who is DG of Protocols, PDP Youth Alliance, and Global Initiative for Good Governance said that the call came at the right time and argued that if you look around and observe reactions from Nigerians from all walks of life, you will notice he spoke the mind of many.
In his words, “It is very unfortunate that somehow we have made Buhari a demi-god that nobody can speak against him even when it is obvious that he has lost control of the situations plaguing Nigeria.
“The fight on terror has become a lucrative venture where arrested Boko Haram Members are released back to the society in the name of reformed/ex-Boko Haram only to continue the fight endlessly because some people are feeding fat from the spoils of the war while Nigeria Citizens and Gallant Soldiers continue to die for nothing. So it was high time we call a spade a spade”. He countered.
Dr. Kalu also recounted that even Buhari, El-Rufia, Tinubu, etc descended on Goodluck Jonathan to resign even when issues of security has not deteriorated to this alarming stage and therefore find no strange action in the call for Buhari’s resignation, stating that Buhari is not God that is beyond human errors and that such call is a move to wake him from his comfort zone.
“All the service Chiefs have overstayed their tenure with little or no result, it is a duty for the president to reshuffle them because their offices were an appointment, not elected. You cannot be doing the same thing for years and expect different results.
“Any Nigerian that is truthful and lover of freedom should know that Nigerians are not free and disunity has never been at this point in the history of Nigeria. Our judicial system has been reduced to zero while every other arm of the government has been annexed to each other for total control. So when we see a man courageous enough to reawaken the consciousness of the people, we should support and encourage them.”
He spoke about the alleged Igbo group that tackled Abaribe thus:
“We are not aware of any group with such a mandate to attack Abaribe. If you observe, only the handlers of Buhari like Garba Shedu, Loretta Onochie, and Femi Adesina attacked him, calling him names for speaking the truth. So if any group towed that line bearing the name “Igbo” does not extricate them from doing the bidding of “He who sent them”. They must be a Pseudo Igbo group because I have never heard about them before, nor do they speak for the Igbo nation. There’s hunger in Nigeria, therefore some people need to do certain things to eat from the crumbs on the tables of the masters whom Nigeria’s misfortune is their source of wealth”. He said.
Meanwhile, the call by Abaribe and other senators has forced the Presidency to have an emergency Security Meeting with the service chiefs and possibly the same reason for the meeting with Ex-President Goodluck Jonathan.
We expect that rather than attacking Abaribe for speaking the truth, the Presidency should adopt more proactive measures to tackle the numerous challenges facing Nigeria and stop playing the Igbo proverbial Okorie who busied in chasing the rats while his house was on fire.
