A chieftain of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) from Ohafia local government area of Abia state, Hon. Iroha Awa has lambasted political leaders, stakeholders, and leaders of thoughts from Ohafia clan over their inability to unite ahead of the 2023 governorship election in the state.
Awa, who is the deputy director general of Abia Good Governance Initiative stated this in a statement signed by him, Tuesday in Umuahia, noting that the lack of direction by leaders of the clan was worrisome.
According to him, following the crisis in the Abia State Chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC), he expected the clan to rally round their son, Chief Kalu Idika Okwara, who is a governorship aspirant in the People’s Democratic Party (PDP).
While expressing his displeasure over the political direction of the clan, he appealed to political actors from Ohafia local government area to adopt Idika Okwara as their consensus candidate for the 2023 governorship election.
He said, “It is shameful and embarrassing that members of the PDP from Ohafia Udumaeze are still playing hide and seek game with regards to the governorship election. The time to unite and rally round Chief Kalu Idika Okwara is now. We must come together and adopt him as our own ahead of the gubernatorial election.
“Ohafia cannot afford to keep distracting themselves with wrong steps and faulty strategy at the risk of neglecting its priority of succeeding Governor Okezie Ikpeazu.
“Chief Kalu Idika has the requisite character, capacity, capability and the intellect to run Abia state to the satisfaction of the generality of the populace. He is not just a candidate to beat but the best bet to win the governorship election for the People’s Democratic Party, PDP.
“It is quite unfortunate that most of our sons in the APC have lost out to Chief Ikechi Emenike. We must not give up our ambition of producing the next governor of the state. We have Chief Kalu Idika Okwara in the PDP; we are at the point of no return, therefore, we must rally round him and adopt him as our consensus candidate in 2023, ” he said.
