The president General of Mbem Political Assembly, MPA, Chief Lucas Uche Eme has in a recent, but worrisome video called on the state government to come to the rescue of residents of the Bakassi Area of Amaekpu Ohafia in Ohafia L.G.A, Abia State.
In the scary video obtained by OHAFIA TV News, the erosion which has lingered too long has continued to encroach on the properties in the vicinity, thereby constituting a threat to lives and possible loss of millions in assets if not checked.
While filming the erosion site, Chief Lucas called on Abia State Government to expedite action and intervene for the Ohafia community as any delay till the rainy days is going to pose further danger in the area.
He also called on Rt. Hon. Ifeanyi Uchendu, Abia State Assembly Deputy Speaker, a proud son of Amaekpu Community to, as a matter of urgency, use his position and reach to bring the attention of the government to the threat posed by the expanding erosion.
“Rt Hon Ifeanyi Uchendu, I was at this site in Amaekpu yesterday, and unless you take this matter up and urgently too, Ohafia will lose multi-million Naira property. Possibly lives. Biko intervene urgently” this was Chief Lucas appeal on MPA platform.
Another user, Alum Otis also lent a voice:
“The State Government should come to the aid of this neighborhood. They’ve suffered for no fault of theirs rather having their properties at the danger erosion spots that was not there. Governor Okezie come and rescue our people” he said.
But the NOAS President, Idika Michael was more specific in his submission, directing the appeal to Member Representing Arochukwu/Ohafia Federal Constituency, Rt. Hon. Uko Nkole:
“There is ecological fund given to House of Rep members. Hon. Onyejiocha used hers to reconstruct the Isiukwuato Erosion site whose road connects to Uturu and Okigwe.
“What about Aro/Ohafia own?
“In government, “eke-oru eke.”
“For this reason, we have different political positions to bridge gaps and common solution to the grassroots”, he opined.
