Prior to the appointment of Dr. Chidia Maduekwe as the Director-General of the Nigeria Film corporations in 2017, the agency was hitherto in an obnoxious state seeking rejuvenation and expertise, it was the coming of the Asaga, Ohafia born administrator that transformed the once-neglected agency to become the subject of attraction and commendation across the board.
The desire of the managing Director of Nigerian Film Corporation (NFC), Dr. Chidia Maduekwe, to buckle up revenue and create jobs, as well as recognizing efforts of film practitioners is nearing realization with the staging of the biggest and rebranded film festival in Nigeria, ZUMA Film Festival (ZUFF), which was initially rested in 2014 has recorded tremendous gains.
The gains are in the platforms and opportunities the festival provided for engagements of film and creative stakeholders towards improving our domestic film production while aiming at more effective global competitiveness.
With the sterling leadership, ideas, and insight of Dr. Chidia Maduekwe, there are high hopes for better film production in Nigeria. Already, the Nigerian Film Corporation has expanded and strengthened its operations through robust partnerships and collaborations with capabilities of engendering the accelerated growth of the industry.
The impact of Dr. Chidia Madueke’s Midas touch in the film industry, particularly, his resolve towards eradicating youth unemployment as the training of youths in modern film production by the agency is specifically designed to ensure that the participants are not only self-employed but also become employers of labor. This gesture will not doubt, fit neatly to the vision of President Buhari’s administration’s approach to reducing youth unemployment in the country.
As the Nigeria Film Corporation (NFC) continues to blossom while standing out as one of the thriving agencies in President Muhammadu Buhari’s administration, it is once again a reflection on the capacity of the unrelenting Director General, whose intellectual and administrative capacity has once again come to light. For someone whose community service, philanthropist gestures, excellence, and affluence dates back to the ’80s, it would be easy to say Dr. Chidia is an accomplished man, but having constantly strived to do more coupled with the unfettered excellence he reproduces, I make bold to say that his best years are still yet to come.
