The Director-General of the National Youth Service Corps, Brig. gen Shuaibu Ibrahim says corps members are part of the defence policy of the country and as such, they can be mobilised for war if the need arises.
Brig. Gen Ibrahim made this known on Channels Television programme, “Sunrise Daily” on Wednesday while reacting to the proposal to scrap the madatory NYSC programme for all Nigerian graduates below the age of 30.
Ibrahim revealed that that when there is serious war, the corps members can be trained and mobilised. He made reference to the three weeks that corps members spend in the orientation camp. According to Ibrahim, the corps members are moulded during those three weeks spent in the camp.

He went further to say that NYSC are concerned about the safety and security of the corps members which is why they have been advised against moving around at night.
