Nigerian government fixes date to open student loan portal

The much-anticipated student loan application portal will open on Friday, May 24, the Nigerian government has finally announced.

Nasir Ayitogo, the Nigerian Education Loan Fund spokesman, or NELFUND, revealed this in a statement on Thursday.

With the help of the loan programme, students can pursue their academic goals without worrying about money.

The statement says: “We are delighted to announce that May 24, 2024, will be the official date to open the portal for student loan applications. Mr. Akintunde Sawyerr, the managing director in charge of the Nigerian Education Loan Fund’s management.

“This marks a significant milestone in President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s (GCFR) commitment to fostering accessible and inclusive education for all Nigerian students. Students can now access loans through the portal, enabling them to pursue their academic goals without financial limitations. The portal offers students an easy-to-use interface to submit their loan applications conveniently.

Eight months have passed since President Tinubu declared that the programme would not begin in September 2023.
