Association of South East Professors and Professionals, (ASEPP)

After its regular monthly meeting on July 14th 2020, the Association of South East Professors and Professionals (an apolitical umbrella body of Professors and sundry Professionals across the South-East geopolitical zone) wish to thank the President and Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, President Mohammadu Buhari, for the appointment of Senator Chris Adighije as the Pro-Chancellor of Federal University Lokoja.

This appointment came at a time of loud complaints on the marginalization of the Southeast geopolitical zone in the scheme of governance in the country. With this appointment, it is worthy of note that in a space of one month, the President has found it necessary to recruit top level academics from Abia state; the first being the appointment of Professor Godswill Obioma as the new Registrar and Chief Executive Officer of National Examination Council (NECO) which we also applauded. This is a bold testimony of love for the people of the Southeast in general and Abia state in particular.

It is our considered opinion that this appointment manifest as a bold testament to the President’s large heart and clear return to inclusive politics in response to Igbo aspirations.

The appointment remains a sound presidential judgment and initiative to mesmerize skeptics and promoters of imaginary hatred of the APC government against the Southeast. More than anything, Senator Adighije’s appointment is for a greater intervention in favor of quality and result-oriented education by a well tested academic.

ASEPP is particularly thrilled by this appointment given the academic background and pedigree of the distinguished Senator as a foremost university teacher and geologist.

Southeast Professors and Professionals consider this all important appointment as epochal in intent, progressive in character and momentous to say the least. Accordingly, we heartily congratulate Senator Adighije for this esteemed position and very importantly, our appreciation goes to President Mohammadu Buhari for his regular look-in towards the Southeast.

Our organization (ASEPP), revalidates our support and greatly identify with the Federal Government for this manifest show of accommodation and love.
