In what seems like a mild drama, but with abundant lessons, especially in these era of white collar job and disdain for Agroprenership, Hon. Jerry Uzosike, the Senator representing Umuahia South Constituency, has sent a strong message across by wishing members of his Constituency a Happy New Month from his farm this morning.
His intent is to challenge everyone to the importance of going back to Agriculture because it is the only area of the economy that will subsist even when other sectors slack.
In his call, he enjoined everyone to engage in farming “whether you are a Big Boy, Ajebo, Slay Queens” etc.
“My Father spoilt me while growing up, Yes He did by taking me to farm always.
Now I cant be happy if I don’t farm. What do u think? Not very bad abi?
“I enjoy farming so much,
It is therapeutic. I feel happy watching my Vegetables grow, oh i love vegetables with okro soup, ask my wife.lol.
“I can eat maize for Africa, I love maize” he joked.
According his revelation, he had a bumper harvest last year but suffered loss during storage of his yams. He said he was adviced that it was caused by using artificial fertilizers.
“This year, am doing it organic,
My Prof Emmanuel Osodeke and my Supervisor Ifeoma Mabel Onwuka thought me the beauty of organic farming, so I am using poultry waste, some of the artificial chemicals may be harmful to the body if over used.
“As a lawyer, am allowed by the rules of Professional conduct to Farm, lol.
“As a Member of the House of Assembly, I also do farming. I encourage my constituents to farm.
“Big boy farm, Ajibos farm, Slay Queens also farm. It doesn’t reduce you, neither reduce your personality.
“This lockdown afforded me the opportunity to do my farming very well this year and i await a bumper harvest.
“My sons Joined me this morning after their 1st online school lesson. I am teaching them how to farm and stake Yams. Maybe I want to spoil them the same way my father spoilt me.
“It pains me most times how able bodied young men and women will come out in the morning and seat out and play till night when we are surrounded by uncultivated farms in this country, story for another day.
“Happy new month my people from my farm in Umunwanwa Umuahia” his messge concluded.
