The Nasarawa State Police Command has apprehended 10 individuals suspected of internet fraud following intelligence reports indicating their presence in Keffi Local Government Area (LGA) of the state. According to DSP Ramhan Nansel, the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), the operation was prompted by actionable intelligence received by the command.
Acting swiftly on the information, officers from the Angwan Lambu Division raided the hideout of the cybercriminals located in GRA Keffi. The operation, conducted on Wednesday, February 21, 2024, at approximately 9:00 p.m., resulted in the arrest of the 10 suspects.
Recovered from the suspects were two laptops, 10 mobile phones of various brands, and three WiFi routers. Additionally, items such as charms, black soap, and narcotics including loud weed and dried leaves suspected to be marijuana were seized.
The suspects have admitted to engaging in internet fraud, commonly known as “Yahoo Yahoo.” They are currently undergoing investigation and will be charged accordingly once the process is completed.
The police action underscores the commitment of law enforcement agencies to combat cybercrime and ensure the safety and security of residents in Nasarawa State. Such proactive measures aim to deter criminal activities and maintain peace and order within the community.
