Governor Carlos Soludo of Anambra State has condemned the mistreatment of a popular prophet in the state, Chukwuemeka Ohanaemere, also known as Odumeje.

Some members of the prosecutorial force, who are overseeing an ongoing demolition of illegal structures in the state, were caught on video manhandling the cleric Thursday.

The cleric’s church building that was partially demolished was among the illegal structures marked for demolition by the state government in Onitsha, Onitsha North Council area of ​​the state.

Soludo called the mistreatment of the cleric “flawed and unprofessional,” and said steps will be taken to correct the unfortunate incident.

“This is very unfortunate and would never happen again. I have ordered that the prosecutorial force personnel involved in the mistreatment of prophet Chukwuemeka Ohanaemere (Odumeje) be treated in accordance with the rules of public conduct which he steadfastly failed to comply with,” Soludo said via his verified Facebook page on Friday.

He said his administration will not be discouraged from working to fulfill its mandate, saying the “emotions evoked” were against the mistreatment of the prophet and not against the state government’s decision to demolish illegal structures.

“On behalf of the government and the good people of Anambra State, I condemn the assault and further ask for your continued support in the fight to restore the dignity of Onitsha and, indeed, the entirety of our homeland,” the governor added.

Church building not completely demolished – Official

Meanwhile, the cleric’s church, the Holy Ghost Mountain Liberation, and Intervention Ministry said the church’s main building was not among the demolished structures.

In a video clip posted on the cleric’s official Instagram page, an unidentified church official said the main church building was not affected and church activities would continue as usual.

“The Odumeje church (building) has not been demolished, but the safe house in front of the Odumeje church,” the official said. “The safe house that is a little bit near the drain was demolished. As you can see, the Odumeje church is still intact.”

The clip showed that the main church building was not demolished, although the entire structure was reportedly marked for demolition.

It is not clear, for now, if the main church will be demolished later.

Soludo was silent on whether the rest of the church building will continue to be torn down.
