The maverick, outspoken and indefatigable Arochukwu/Ohafia Federal Federal Constituency Contender, Rev. Daniel Imo, has called on Christians to refrain from voters apathy to join and actively participate in the process of choosing leaders because even if you fail to participate in the process, the alleged unbelievers will choose the wrong leaders whose leadership style and decision will affect the lives of everyone in Abia State alike.
He made this case at a Flo 94.9 FM Radio Programme tagged “Religion, Politics and the way forward for Abia State” and monitored by OHAFIA TV News where he spoke on the roles, failures and expectations of the church in repositioning the governance of the society through active engagement of her leaders in the spiritual, social and economic well-being of the people, adding that the Church should rejuvenate her theology to focus more on teaching believers their Civil Responsibilities to the society while living Christ-like on Earth because the word of God says that when the righteous is on the throne, the people rejoice.
Rev. Dan expressed pain and worry that the church has excused herself from active politics and this has given room for the bad ones to take over, buttressing that until the Church wake to participate in the political process of Abia, the state will continue to wallow under the strangulating grip of purveyors of our collective patrimony and facilitators of our backwardness.
Further, he explained that Abia as a state with a population of over 2 Million registered voters has 98% of her people as Christians, but the turnout of voters are just about 400,000 or less due to the attitude and erroneous belief that it is a sin to participate in politics.
This clear fact shows that the church, her members and leaders fail to engage in the transformation of the society through the vehicle of politics simply because they believe it is a thing of the world, while ignorantly watching as the outcome of bad governance affect all the people (both believers and nonbelievers)
In nutshell, the CHURCH OF GOD needs to repent and take up her active role in the process of choosing leaders because only this can ensure that the society has respite.
Finally, Rev. Daniel Imo appealed to all the religious groups in Abia to imbibe the spirit of love, tolerance, dialogue and citizenship diplomacy to safeguard a peaceful and prosperous Abia.
