FC Porto defender, Pepe has revealed why his side was able to beat Cristiano Ronaldo-led Juventus in the first leg of the Champions League round of 16 in Portugal on Wednesday.
According to Peper, a former Ronaldo’s teammate at Real Madrid, the Portuguese side “studied Juventus well” and knew the high press would cause the Italians huge problems for a 2-1 victory.
Porto’s goals came in the opening minute of each half; the opener was as a result of a poor Rodrigo Bentancur back-pass, which Moussa Marega capitalised on to give the home side a huge confidence.
Pepe, however, admitted that the two legged tie remains wide open, following Federico Chiesa late away goal.
“We studied Juventus well,” Pepe told Eleven Sports in Portugal.
“The team assimilated what the coach asked. We knew that we had to press hard to keep Juventus from playing their football.
“It’s difficult when conceding goals at home in this type of fixture, but we played a great game.”
