Elder statesman, Chief Edwin Clark, on Monday condemned the disqualification of Governor Godwin Obaseki of Edo State from participating in the June 22 primary of the All Progressives Congress (APC).
In a statement personally signed by Clark, he advised Obaseki to decamp to the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), if APC fails to reverse his disqualification.
“I condemn, in the strongest terms, the disqualification of the incumbent Governor of Edo State, by the APC screening committee under the leadership of a Professor, Ayuba Jonathan, over alleged inconsistencies in the governor’s academic credentials.
“The subsequent upholding of that illegitimate decision by the APC Appeal Committee is yet another action that leaves a sour taste in the mouth,” he said.
Clark also urged the PDP to “take advantage” of the situation if President Muhammadu Buhari and the APC leadership fail to intervene in the crisis.
“If the leadership of the All Progressives Congress, (APC), including Mr. President, fail to intervene in this unfortunate crisis in the Edo State, I would appeal to the opposition, Peoples Democratic Party, (PDP), to take advantage of the situation,” he added.
Clark also appealed to the people of Edo, to continue to support Obaseki for a second term, so he “will continue the good work”.
