BISSAU – Following the just concluded Presidential Election of 29th December, 2019 that saw General Umaro Sissoco Embalo of the MADEM G-15 party who stood against Domingos Simoes Pereira of PAIGC come out victorious in a landslide result that truly reflected the real figures at the campaign levels.

The President of the United People’s Assembly – Democratic Party of Guinea-Bissau (APU-PDGB), Engr Nuno Nabiam whose overwhelming support for General Umaro Sissoco Embalo tilted the pendulum in his favour, has in a Press Statement to Newsmen called on the ECOWAS and other international bodies to prevail on Domingos Simoes Pereira to concede defeat because dragging the country on the path of personal vendetta will not take Guinea-Bissau to her true progress, especially considering the fact that the contest was not about individuals, but about the way forward for the republic and therefore no one should be too self-centered to believe that only him is qualified to occupy the number one seat.

In his words: “The elections was strictly observed by all and sundry and the result obtained thereof was succinct and clear. One then wonders why the loser Domingos Simoes Pereira of PAIGC will find it difficult to accept defeat and let the republic move forward. Whose interest is he fighting for? Is he fighting for the same people that voted massively for USE or a particular people that are instigating him to take over power illegally?” He queried.

“Power comes from God and we all participated in this process that saw USE emerge ahead of all of us, so I am expecting DSP to respect the will of the people as a gentleman rather than feeling he is better than everyone of us and so deserves to be president against all odds.

“We therefore call on ECOWAS to have a more interventionist role with the institutions in Guinea-Bissau so that President Umaro Sissoco Embaló’s mandate is not further delayed with the nuances of state apparatus later than 19th February 2020 because this singular action will continue to rub the people of the opportunity to hit the ground running. We as a nation has a lot on our hands and therefore should not give in to actions that will further create disunity and delay in our progress match as a nation.

“Elections are not won in post-contest as being pursued by DSP through court and it is delusional to believe that he will win the election through the machinery of the state. I refer DSP back to campaign materials that preceded the elections. He should obtain materials littered on the internet to ascertain that the result of the election is a true reflection of the will of the people which we as gallant and patriotic gentlemen has respected, I expect him to do same.

“If DSP is fighting for the people of the republic of Guinea-Bissau, he should accept defeat in good fate and let the republic move on. Let ECOWAS remind him that dragging the clear victory of USE will not upturn the outcome of the free and fair election because the battle is already lost and won” Nuno said.

Recall that, the inauguration of the newly elected President of Guinea-Bissau General Umaro Sissoco Embalo has been fixed for 19th February, 2020 and his victory has been respected by his countrymen (including other contenders, except Domingos), as well as different international communities that has played host to him, which include France, Portugal, Nigeria, Kenya, Senegal, Angola, Togo, etc.

Playing god and bad-loser by DSP is just a clog in the wheel of progress of Guinea-Bissau and must be condemned by every patriotic Guinean.
