The Honourable Commissioner for Boundary matters and Conflict Resolution, Chief Obike Imo Mascot says Abia state does not a viable opposition, describing the seeming opposition as mere “ Facebook opposition”.
Speaking in Umuahia recently in an interview, Mascot said Governor Okezie Ikpeazu’s sterling performance has earned him accolades, adding that the governor has no rival come 2019.
“Even before my emergence as a commissioner, I have always told people that, with what I have seen the Governor do; with what I have heard; with what he has been able to achieve so far amidst litigations; I do not think the Governor has an opposition.
“The opposition he has is just Facebook opposition. 2019 is going to be a landslide victory for the Governor. I relate with the masses even at the grassroots. There’s no place you would go and not see the Governor’s signature. I listen to the common people, I know what they are saying. Come 2019 it will be a landslide,” he said.
Reacting to the recent Governor of the year award given to Governor Ikpeazu by Vanguard Newspaper, Mascot said it was a well-deserved award.
In his words: “It is a well-deserved award. He has also been nominated by Authority Newspaper for an Award. The governor has been nicknamed a silent performer. He has been doing so much with less noise about it. Some months ago, we had a Team of editors who visited Abia state for a media tour. They came and saw Governor Ikpeazu’s giant developmental strides and found him worthy of an Award.”
On Conflict resolution and Boundary matters, the honourable commissioner explained that the commission has constantly worked tirelessly to ensure coexistence and peace in communities.
“We’ve been able to achieve peace in our border communities. We always try to respond promptly at the request of any community that has issues with a neighboring community.”
Citing the recently resolved Boundary dispute between the Uturu community in Isuikwuato LGA of Abia state and Ihube community in Okigwe LGA of Imo state, Mascot noted that his office and the Office of the Deputy Governor are working out modalities to forestall clashes.
