A 17-year-old herder and 35 cows were slain by some as-yet-unidentified gunmen in the Barkin-Ladi Local Government Area of Plateau State at Doruwa Babuje in Ropp District and Nafan community in Fan District.
According to the News Agency of Nigeria, the perpetrators killed the herder by opening fire while riding motor cycles.
During the incident, another herder suffered serious injuries.
Caleb Mutfwang, the state governor, denounced the incident and ordered the appropriate security authorities to find the offenders.
He made this assertion in a statement released on Thursday in Jos by Mr. Gyang Bere, his director of press and public affairs.
Mutfwang declared that his government will not support any act of lawlessness or the murder of law-abiding, innocent people.
“We completely denounce these acts of lawlessness that are jeopardising the state government’s efforts to firmly establish peaceful coexistence among all citizens.”
“Bloody deaths of innocent people in their farms or anywhere else in the state while they pursue their rightful means of subsistence will no longer be tolerated by my administration.
Gyang cited Mutfwang as saying, “I have instructed the security agencies to hunt and track down the perpetrators of this heinous crimes and ensure justice for the victims.”
Gyang added that in order to bring the afflicted communities’ youth and women’s groups back to normal, the governor had given orders to traditional, community, and religious leaders to work with other relevant parties.
The state’s citizens were advised by the governor, who expressed sympathy for the families impacted, to reveal any criminal groups inside their communities or risk facing the full force of the law.
