…and Puts FG on Its Toes to Stop Sleeping on the Bicycle to Fix Nigeria.

The Apex Igbo Sociocultural Organization, Ohanaeze Ndigbo, feels an imperative duty to communicate a stark and unvarnished truth to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu. The recent adoption of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) by the leaders of Nigeria’s Opposition Coalition serves not merely as a significant political maneuver but rather as a resounding wake-up call for the Tinubu administration. This development demands urgent action to address the persistent economic distress, soaring poverty, pervasive hunger, and unresolved security challenges afflicting our nation.

The Coalition’s adoption of the ADC has achieved a remarkable milestone, effectively halting Nigeria’s perilous drift toward an unhealthy one-party system. In this context, it has rendered the crisis merchants—those individuals previously engaged to destabilize opposition parties such as the PDP, LP, SDP, and APGA—both obsolete and irrelevant. Their political paymasters are increasingly anxious about their future, recognizing the ADC’s emergence as a formidable contender and genuine threat.

Consequently, the Federal Government must cease its metaphorical “sleep on the bicycle” approach and abandon its indifferent lens through which it has viewed the struggles of ordinary Nigerians. Now is the time for the government to awaken from its complacent slumber and take decisive actions aimed at accelerating Nigeria’s economic recovery. President Tinubu stands on notice; it is now imperative that he seeks bold and redemptive steps to resuscitate our economy. A crucial component of this endeavor involves a candid self-assessment of whether his administration’s unpopular policies have produced any meaningful benefits for the citizenry.

The glaring inefficacy of certain ministers responsible for the inadequate performance in critical sectors—namely economy, security, agriculture, health, and rural development—must be addressed with urgency, especially as we approach August 2025, marking two years since the appointments of his Cabinet Ministers. While we acknowledge and commend the progress made in road infrastructure and groundbreaking policies within the Federal Capital Territory, led by Ministers David Umahi and Nyesom Wike, it is vital that President Tinubu reevaluates his Cabinet. He must prioritize a departure from political patronage and embrace clinical reforms that are driven by esteemed Nigerian economists, experts, and technocrats. Such an approach is essential for restoring his integrity and refocusing the government’s efforts on revitalizing the beleaguered economy.

This reconfiguration of priorities will ultimately restore the confidence of Nigerians in their government. President Tinubu must regard the ADC’s aspirations to unseat him not merely as a threat but as an unforeseen opportunity—a chance to recalibrate his strategies and re-engage with the electorate. The time for taking the needs of Nigerians for granted has long passed; neglecting their welfare will yield grave consequences for his administration.

It is imperative to be forthright: while the ADC may present itself as a viable opposition force, it is critical to recognize that many of its coalition leaders are culpable for the decade of unbearable suffering imposed on Nigerians under the APC since 2015. Disturbing intelligence reveals that a significant portion of ADC coalition leaders are individuals of questionable character, primarily motivated by the pursuit of state capture, exploiting the inadequacies of the Federal Government to further their own interests.

The reality before us is stark and sobering. Reports indicate that state governors may betray Tinubu’s aspirations for re-election in 2027, contemplating a shift in allegiance to the ADC in light of the impending catastrophe threatening the ruling APC. Intelligence suggests that several Northern governors are clandestinely engaging with the ADC, feeling pressure from Northern political leaders and traditional rulers to abandon the APC. Their careful monitoring of the presidency’s growing anxiety and the resultant upheaval following the Opposition Coalition’s endorsement of ADC indicates a calculated evaluation of the political landscape. Should President Tinubu choose to replace his Vice President, Kashim Shettima, with another Northern nominee for the upcoming elections, it may further undermine his political prospects in the Northern region.

The time has come for President Tinubu to confront his shortcomings decisively. The current trajectory is foreboding, and should he fail to adjust his strategies, the consequences could be dire. The moment for action is nigh.
