The Defence Headquarters says that N10 billion worth of stolen crude oil has been found in the Niger Delta. This is part of the fight against oil theft and vandalism in the area.
Maj. Gen. Edward Buba, who is in charge of defence media operations, said this at the DHQ’s twice-weekly briefing in Abuja on Thursday.
DHQ said that in the North alone, troops have killed 2,245 terrorists in the last three months.
Buba said, “During the second quarter of this year, troops killed 2,245 terrorists, arrested 3,682 suspected terrorists and other criminals, freed 1,993 hostages, and stopped the theft of over N10 billion worth of oil. Items recovered included 9,225,149 litres of stolen crude oil, 2,874,916 litres of illegally refined AGO, 29,900 litres of DPK, and 31,380 litres of PMS.”
During that time, there were 1,169 AK-47 rifles, 36,273 rounds of 7.62mm special ammo, 14,764 rounds of 7.62mm NATO, 713 different types of guns, and 9,850 different types of ammunition, he said.
Remember that the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited said it found 165 illegal oil refineries in the Niger Delta in just one week?
