Given the current status of Nigeria’s economy, Ohanaeze Ndigbo, the top Igbo socio-cultural organisation and the Igbo people’s steadfast voice, boldly calls on President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to muster his moral resolve. The text “URGENT ACTION REQUIRED: PROBE BUHARI, MINISTERS, AND CLOSE AIDES TO SAVE NIGERIA’S AGONISING ECONOMY – OHANAEZE DEMANDS TINUBU’S ENGAGEMENT OR THREATENS LITIGATION” was found in a press release that was sent to OHAFIATV News.
According to the statement, it’s time to formally launch an executive investigation into the serious economic mismanagement that occurred in Nigeria between 2015 and 2023 under the government of former President Buhari. This investigation has to look into the careless foreign borrowing that, under Buhari’s administration, did not result in any projects that could be seen as concrete and visible. The investigation also has to look into the massive re-looting of seized loot by Buhari’s ministers, close aides, and family members from corrupt people and corporate entities.
Buhari’s economic teams’ incompetence and their bold repurchasing of recovered properties are directly responsible for the extreme poverty and unspeakable pain that the Ndigbo and other Nigerians have to bear. Even though he won the election on his fourth try, former President Muhammadu Buhari oversaw the most dishonest, nepotistic, incompetent, and corrupt administration in Nigerian history. His advocacy of the Fulanization plan and the strengthening of Myetti Allah, the quasi-apex group spearheading the diabolical Fulanization doctrine, have caused economic chaos and pain for Nigerians. The country experienced two recessions between 2015 and 2023 as a result of Buhari’s poor handling of the Nigerian economy. Nigerians and Ndigbo people demand an immediate, thorough investigation of the administration of former President Buhari that goes beyond just looking into the case of former CBN Governor Godwin Emefiele and his family. Additionally, we support Buhari’s ministers, close aides, chief of staff, relatives, and allies being immediately arrested and prosecuted.
President Tinubu needs to start an unavoidably thorough investigation of Buhari’s government in order to stop the protests against economic hardship from spreading further. These rallies were briefly stopped by the African Cup of Nations in Ivory Coast. Nigerians are stunned at the wealth that Buhari’s ministers, personal assistants, and relatives have amassed—money that exceeds state wealth and even eclipses the total wealth of all 36 states in the country. All of the “re-looted” loot must be returned by these individuals, as this is the first step towards Nigeria’s economic rehabilitation.
According to Mazi Okechukwu Isiguzoro, the secretary general of Ohanaeze Ndigbo, if the federal government tries to dodge the request to begin this investigation or gives in to pressure to end it, OHANAEZE Ndigbo is ready to file a lawsuit. We will file a lawsuit to force President Tinubu to officially launch a comprehensive inquiry into the conduct of former ministers, service chiefs, close aides, and family members of Buhari. President Tinubu will do this by using the executive and constitutional powers granted to the office of the President. Given the rising expense of living and the currency crisis brought on by the alleged hoarding of billions of stolen funds by Buhari’s ministers, close aides, the cabal, family members, and associates, it is imperative to recover all funds stolen from Nigeria’s treasury. It is imperative to confront the “dollarization” of the Nigerian economy by Buhari’s economic staff. Nigerians are aware that this investigation is crucial to reducing corruption in our system. Although Buhari’s presidential status may exempt him from the investigation, it is important to keep in mind that in 2015, his close aides and ministers used the office of the President, which Buhari held, as a weapon to conduct a thorough investigation into the relationships, family members, and associates of former President Goodluck Jonathan. Thus, it is imperative that a strong whistleblower policy be reinstated in order to allow Nigerians to give the federal government important information, saving the economy and averting the complete depreciation of the Naira. Ohanaeze is praying hard that President Tinubu will have the guts to live up to Nigerians’ aspirations and bring the treasury robbers under Buhari’s administration accountable.
In conclusion, Ohanaeze Ndigbo affirms through Mazi Okechukwu Isiguzoro, her secretary-general, that it is still resolute in its pledge to boldly defend the rights and interests of all Nigerians and Igbo people. It is imperative that a full inquiry be conducted into the pervasive financial wrongdoing mentioned above. We beg President Tinubu to respond to our appeal and show unwavering leadership in rescuing our collapsing economy.
