To foster scientific brilliance and expand access to Artificial Intelligence (AI) education, the federal government launched the student robotics competition for 2023–2024. Speaking at the workshop’s opening in Abuja, Education Minister Tahir Mamman praised instructors and mentors for their commitment to developing the next generation of creators and programmers.
Mr. Mammam stressed the need of including robotics education in the curriculum, saying that it gives kids the tools they need to succeed in an increasingly digital world in addition to enhancing their academic experience. He acknowledged the critical role that mentors, educators, principals, and organisers play in increasing the use of technology in society and praised their ceaseless efforts in this regard.
Furthermore, Minister Mamman acknowledged the contribution of Coderina Education and Technology Foundation, applauding their initiation of a scholarship scheme for the top three performing teams entering university.
The national coordinator, Olajide Ademola-Ajayi, highlighted the widespread participation in the competition, with representation from Unity schools and various institutions across Nigeria. The event spans all six geopolitical zones, with the winning team earning medals and the opportunity to represent Nigeria in international championships in the U.S., Australia, Norway, and Brazil.
The competition’s wide reach and engagement are demonstrated by the 56 schools that participated in two different programmes. This varied engagement reflects the minister’s goal of making robotics education accessible to all learners.
In conclusion, the robotics competition serves as a springboard for AI education in addition to signifying a dedication to promoting scientific achievement. The cooperation of foundations, educators, and the government demonstrates a determined attempt to equip pupils for the difficulties of a changing digital environment.
