The Action Democratic Party, ADP, Gubernatorial flag bearer, Mazi Chibuike Jonas, has described as unconstitutional, Governor Victor Okezie Ikpeazu’s recent sack and replacement of Obingwa Local Government Council Chairman, Mr Ibe Nwoke and replacing him with the  Deputy Chairman Mrs Uloma Nwogu, as unconstitutional, the highest display of impunity and rape on democracy.

Reacting to the now-viral news in cyberspace through a statement to the Press, Mazi Jonas, insisted that he is not aware of the Local Government Law the Abia State Governor is quoting, but argued that in a democratic setting like Nigeria, the local government system is autonomous with its Chairman duly elected by electorates, and therefore wonders why a governor should summarily, single-handedly dismiss an elected chairman without the due process of impeachment through the councillors.

His word, “I have been a local government Chairman in Arochukwu LGA where I performed creditably well. I find it strange to understand how a sitting governor will wake up and remove another elected government official based on the excuse of decamping to another party without passing him through the process of impeachment in the Council Chambers. For me, It is a crass display of naked power which amounts to impunity.

“There is law in Nigeria where Abia State is part of. No one man should use his powers as a tool of vendetta to settle some political scores because that will amount to setting bad precedence in governance. If the LGA Chairman (elected) broke any law as alleged by the avenging PDP party, the right process of removing him is to put it to vote and not to summarily dismiss him as if he were appointed by OVI, no! Even if he was voted on the platform of PDP, he was not voted by PDP members alone, he was voted by Obingwa LGA to represent them and not to represent Ikpeazu and PDP. This is an abuse of power and impunity that must not be allowed to stand”, he said.

Hon.Jonas was the Arochukwu LGA Chairman that set the record of starting more than 52 projects and completing about 50 of them within one year and eight months. These are facts with evidence for everyone to see.
