Two people lost their lives in a deadly car crash on the Lagos-Badagry motorway, while four more people were injured. According to Williams Manga, the unit commander of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) in Badagry, the accident happened near the Ibereko portion of the motorway at around 5:46 a.m.
Seven people were riding in the implicated car, a Toyota Camry with dealer registration number 01-6897DLA, consisting of four men and three women. The car was returning from a well-known hotel when the accident happened, causing it to flip over many times on the former Badagry motorway and end up on the other side of the street.
Tragically, two individuals lost their lives on the spot, while four others sustained varying degrees of injuries. Emergency response teams from the FRSC were promptly alerted, reaching the scene at 6:20 a.m. The injured individuals were swiftly transported to the General Hospital in Badagry for medical treatment, and the bodies of the deceased were deposited in the hospital’s mortuary.
The likely cause of the accident, as identified by Mr. Manga, was excessive speeding. In response to such incidents, the FRSC has intensified sensitization programs aimed at encouraging motorists on the Agbara-Badagry expressway to reduce their speed, promoting safer driving practices.
The hospital’s medical director, Olatunde Bakare, revealed that the accident victims were admitted at 7:30 a.m. He underlined that drivers on the Lagos-Badagry motorway should drive more cautiously and at a slower speed because accidents frequently occur and send a constant stream of victims to the hospital.
This regrettable tragedy emphasises how crucial it is to follow speed limits and practise responsible driving in order to increase road safety. The FRSC is still working to increase knowledge of and support for road safety in the area.
