It was another extraordinary event for the people of Umukalu in Isiala Ngwa LGA of Abia State as the President of Bishop Emeka Nwankpa Foundation honours his pledges to God that he will never stand by and watch a widow suffer sorrow as long as he draws breath on earth. This moment of joy was reenacted for the women on January 4, 2024.
The Senior Pastor and General Overseer of Chapel of Faith International Bible Ministry revealed that the vow to always feed widows annually is because, despite coming from a very poor background, his successes are tied to the blessings and favour he received from widows, particularly his mother, who lost her husband when he was very tender and suffered as a widow to train him but could not live long enough to enjoy the blessings God has bestowed upon her son. As a result, he understands that as long as he feeds the widows, his mother will be content wherever she is.
Before the event of blessing the widows began, Bishop Nwankpa announced his decision to support a select number of students in various universities with a total sum of N1,000,000.00 (One Million Naira), in addition to over 49 undergraduates under his scholarship and numerous others at the secondary level. Miss Amarachi Udomba, one of the recipients who spoke on behalf of the others, praised the sponsor for his generosity and humanitarian gestures, begging for God to replenish him so that he might do the same for others as he has done for them.
Mr Nduagu, the faithful personal assistant on media to the indefatigable clergy, received a Toyota Pathfinder as a reward for his dedication and loyalty in service, while over 30 people received empowerment gifts such as Sewing Machines, Industrial Grinding Machines, Hair Dryers, and other items to support their businesses or start a new one. The recipients were praying for greater blessings on Bishop Emeka Nwankpa, and the mood was filled with joy and ceaseless songs of praise.
At the main event, over 100 bags of branded rice were delivered to over 1000 windows, both present and far, via their coordinators in Abia State’s 17 Local Government Areas.
The widows of Umukalu and nearby communities such as Osusu, Ntigha, Ubakala, and others from as far away as Aba and Umuahia who attended the celebration returned home with rice and one piece of wrapper to complement it.
In an interview with OHAFIATV News, the Bishop’s wife, Rev Dr. Mrs Nwankpa, revealed that their family has been doing this for 18 years to repay God for his blessings by lifting as many people out of poverty as they can and blessing as many people as they can through support. She assured her husband that she will never abandon him because the joy they bring to others is what makes their life complete for both the givers (them) and the recipients (Beneficiaries).
