After the results of the recently finished election were collated, governor Hope Uzodimma of the All Progressives Congress (APC) was declared the winner in 27 local government areas on Sunday at 8:30 a.m.
The State Collation Centre in the state capital of Owerri is where the results are now being collated.
The election was conducted in Owerri on Sunday at around 2:30 a.m., with Prof. Abayomi Fashina, the Vice Chancellor of the Federal University of Oye Ekiti, acting as the state Returning Officer for INEC.
Among the eighteen parties fielding candidates for the election, the APC, represented by Uzodimma, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), with Samuel Anyanwu, and the Labour Party, with Achonu Nneji, were the main competitors.
2,419,922 people in the state were registered to vote for the election, and 2,318,919 Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs) were obtained, according to INEC.
Following the completion of the collation on Sunday at 8:30 a.m., Fashina said that the center would adjourn for an hour and then reassemble to declare the winner.
