The days of double taxation and heavy tax burdens on petty traders in the commercial city of Aba may be over, as the governorship candidate of the Action Peoples Party (APP) in Abia state, Chief Mascot Uzor Kalu, has assured the people of Aba that his administration, if elected into office, will simplify tax collection and lessen the tax burden on the petty traders of the city.
Chief Kalu, who traced the source of his training to trading, having come from a business family, decried the outrageous rate of taxation the government heaps on petty traders while adding that his administration will focus on generating revenue from the taxes of corporate organizations, not petty traders.
“I am a born trader and was trained in trading, which Aba is known for. “But it saddens my heart that traders are suffering because of infrastructural decay and heavy taxation.”
Questioning the rationale behind imposing a heavy tax on struggling petty traders, the former Abia state Chief of Staff said, though his government will increase the IGR of the state, his focus is on creating an enabling environment for industries to thrive and getting more revenue from the company income tax.
St. Eugene wards 5, Omuma Road 14, and Industrial ward 2 in Aba North L.G.A. are where ABSIEC Chief Kalu visited today alongside Hon. Christopher Igboko (AKA The Boy is Good) and Comr. Ujo Nlonlo Justice, the APP’s candidates for Aba North/Aba South Federal Constituency and Aba North State Constituency, respectively.
Other APP chieftains that were part of the visit included: Comr. Emeka Adile, APP’s State Administrative Secretary; Barr. Peter Ndukwe, State Chairman of the Reality Organization; Comr. Ojisi Iro Ogbaeja, State Chairman of OUK Movement.
