Four Catholic reverends abducted Sunday along Okigwe-Umulolo Road in the Okigwe Local Government Area IMO state have been released.
The Reverend Sisters are members of the Sisters of Jesus El Salvador Generelate, a religious group of the Catholic Church in Port Harcourt, capital of the Rivers, south-south of Nigeria.
They were identified as Johannes Nwodo, Christabel Echemazu, Liberata Mbamalu and Benita Agu.
They were attacked and kidnapped while on their way to attend a thanksgiving service for another Reverend Sister in the area.
The religious group’s secretary general, Zita Ihedoro, announced the release in a statement on Tuesday, two days after abduction.
Ms. Ihedoro said that the abducted Reverend Sisters were released unconditionally.
“With hearts full of joy, the Sisters of Jesus El Salvador wish to announce the unconditional release of four of our sisters who were kidnapped around the Okigwe-Umulolo axis on August 21, 2022,” he said.
Continuing, the secretary general said, “today is a memorable day for us, therefore, we wish to share this joy with all the men and women of good will who in one way or another have contributed to the prompt and safe release of our beloved sisters. .”
Ms. Ihedoro, a Reverend Sister, expressed her gratitude to Christians for their “prayers and moral support” during the “difficult time”.
