Abia State Governor Alex Otti has condemned the previous administration led by Okezie Ikpeazu, claiming they paid N9.8 billion to a contractor for the reconstruction of Port Harcourt Road in Aba without the project being completed.
Speaking at a Thanksgiving and carnival event in Aba, Otti stated that the payment of N9.8 billion in 2017 was equivalent to $29 million at that time, yet the road remains unfinished.

In contrast, Otti’s administration has invested N36.5 billion in the road’s reconstruction. He accused his opponents of making noise about the costs, despite the alleged mismanagement of funds by the previous administration.
During the event, Otti announced plans to launch 20 electric buses in the next two months and praised a tricycle driver who returned N2.4 million that a passenger had forgotten, highlighting the driver’s honesty. According to event organizers, the reconstruction of Port Harcourt Road has revitalized many businesses in the area.
