SOUTHEAST GOVERNORS AND POLITICIANS STALLED NNAMDI KANU’S RELEASE IN 2024, NOT TINUBU

Ohanaeze Ndigbo Christmas Message to Igbos – Date: 25th December 2024

As we celebrate the Christmas season, Ohanaeze Ndigbo extends warm wishes to all Ndigbo at home and in the diaspora. This season is marked by joy and reflection, but also a moment to address pressing issues, particularly Nnamdi Kanu’s prolonged detention and leadership failures in our region.

The stalling of Nnamdi Kanu’s release is rooted in the misguided ambitions of certain Southeast Governors and politicians, rather than President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s inaction. These individuals prioritize securing positions for the 2027 Vice Presidential elections over Kanu’s release. Their duplicity has undermined governmental relations and exacerbated violence and insecurity in Southeast Nigeria.

We urge our people to remain vigilant against attempts to undermine Ohanaeze Ndigbo’s leadership. There are indications of a plot to manipulate the tenure system and influence the January 2025 election for President General.

Ohanaeze Ndigbo asserts that the naiveté of two Southeast Governors regarding Kanu’s release needs critical examination. One Governor’s neutral stance prioritizes individual aspirations over collective safety and progress.

During the Southeast Governors’ Meeting on July 2, 2024, commitments were made to pursue dialogue with President Tinubu. However, subsequent actions revealed sabotage and indifference among Governors in addressing insecurity.

We hold Southeast Governors responsible for their inaction and lack of dedication to our people’s welfare. We urge Ndigbo to demand accountability from these leaders and refrain from directing frustrations towards President Tinubu.

Ohanaeze Ndigbo commends individual efforts to address insecurity and the resilience of Ndigbo people. We remain committed to securing Nnamdi Kanu’s release and anticipate support and solid commitments by 2025.

In conclusion, as we celebrate Christmas, let us remember that collective effort, strategic vigilance, and commitment to truth are paramount for our people’s advancement. We will rise together, demand accountability, and pursue justice.
