APC Chieftain, Chief Chidiebere J. Okoh, has responded to the member Representing Ikwuano/Umuahia Federal Constituency, Hon. Obi Aguocha over claims that Abia State did not flourish for 24 years which includes 8 years under Dr. Orji Uzor Kalu’s governance from 1999 to 2007. Okoh vehemently disagrees, citing the numerous achievements of Kalu’s administration.
“During Senator Orji Uzor Kalu’s tenure, Abia State witnessed unprecedented development,” Okoh stated. “He commissioned numerous road projects, including those commissioned by President Obasanjo and other prominent Nigerians. This is a testament to his commitment to infrastructure development that we still see today in his pragmatic representation of Abia North Senatorial Zone.”

Okoh also highlighted Kalu’s achievements in education, healthcare, and workers’ welfare. “Kalu introduced free education, which enabled many Abians to access quality education. He also built functional hospitals and ensured regular payment of salaries, gratuities, and pensions. This led to a significant improvement in the standard of living for Abians.”
Okoh challenged Aguocha to admit when the state’s decline began and if current leaders are doing better than Kalu’s government. “It’s important to acknowledge the facts and not distort history for political gain,” Okoh said.
Furthermore, Okoh asked Hon. Aguocha to acknowledge that Governor Otti is rehabilitating roads built by Dr. Kalu and highlight the 15 general hospitals and Abia State University Teaching Hospital built by Kalu.
“These achievements are a testament to Kalu’s vision and commitment to Abia State’s development,” Okoh concluded.
