A 10-year-old child has been taken into custody by the Lagos State Police Command on suspicion of fatally strangling his fellow 10-year-old during a football game.
On Sunday, SP Benjamin Hundeyin, a spokesman for the Command, told reporters that the arrest had been made.
According to Hundeyin, the Ejigbo Police Division was notified of the incident on Friday at approximately 6:20 p.m. Israel Ogunleye, 10, was playing football with some boys at Oluwole Street, Powerline in the Ejigbo area, where the boy’s mother keeps her shop, according to the father of the deceased, who reported the incident to the police.
The father told the PPRO that his son got into a fight with another boy, who is also ten years old. He stated the 10-year-old kid was accused of holding his son’s neck and strangling him till he passed away.
A group of detectives went to the spot and took pictures of the body and surroundings based on the report. After the body was brought to the General Hospital Isolo, the attending physician pronounced him deceased.
“The suspect is in police custody and an investigation is underway,” he stated. “The body was moved to the mortuary for post-mortem examination.”
