In response to reports that its officials are being held captive in Brass Local Government Area in Bayelsa State, the Independent National Electoral Commission, or INEC, stated on Sunday that it is actively monitoring the situation.
The Commission released a statement on Sunday via a post on its social media platform, X.
This occurred after the state’s gubernatorial election was conducted.
INEC called on the security authorities to expeditiously assist their release, cautioning that the development is damaging to legitimate elections.
“The Unfolding Situation in Brass Local Government Area” the statement reads
“The Commission is keeping a careful eye on the hostage-taking incident involving our staff in Brass LGA, Bayelsa State.
“This undermines the legitimacy of elections. We demand that the security services help to free them right now”
