Former Kaduna State Governor Nasir El-Rufai acknowledged that Nigeria’s economy grew noticeably during the second term of former President Olusegun Obasanjo.
E-Rufai stated that Obasanjo’s second term was the most successful time of economic growth in Nigeria during a session at the Africa In the World conference on Friday in Stellenbosch, South Africa.

El-Rufai worked as a minister for Obasanjo, the first president of the fourth republic to be freely chosen, from 1999 until 2007.
The former governor claimed that Obasanjo’s administration was economically successful because it had good planning, adding that it was fortunate because the price of crude oil increased.
We have a planning commission in Nigeria, he remarked, but it hasn’t been as successful.
“If you look at Nigeria’s economic trajectory, the best four to five years of economic growth, job creation, and decreased inflation were between 2003 and 2007, during President Obasanjo’s second term, when the nation once again resumed proper integrated planning.”
