Abia 2023: Limited Cash Flow Forces ACCORD to Postpone Ceremonial Campaign Flag-off

As the CBN naira-redesign policy takes its adverse toll on the economic and socio-political lives of Nigerians, the Accord Party has postponed the ceremonial campaign flag-off of Bishop Dr Emeka Nwankpa, its governorship candidate.

The event, which was earlier scheduled for Saturday, 11 February, 2023, was postponed due to what the party described as the ‘current prevailing circumstances’ in the country.

The news of the last-minute postponement was contained in a press release signed by Dr Tony Agba, the campaign Director General which reads thus:

“Postponement of Bishop Emeka Nwankpa’s Ceremonial Flag Off

This is to inform the general public, the good people of Abia State, and the Accord Party faithful that due to the prevailing circumstances in the country as it relates to very limited cash flow, the ceremonial campaign flag-off of Bishop Emeka Nwankpa, the Accord Party governorship candidate in Abia State, which was earlier scheduled to hold on Saturday, 11 February, 2023, has been postponed.

However, the party shall continue with its statewide tours across the 17 local government areas and 184 wards in the state.

The new date for the ceremony, which shall not be long from now, shall be announced soon.

We regret any inconveniences caused by this shift in date.”

Recall that, Bola Tinubu, the APC presidential candidate, has lamented the adverse effects of the currency redesign policy on political activities. It is obvious that political parties, not just the Accord Party, are going to face hard times in the coming days due to the difficulty in assessing enough cash to finance their campaign activities and pay the polling unit agents.
