Following the revelation by Governor Okezie Ikpeazu that Prof Uche Ikonne, the People Democratic Party’s flag bearer in the 2023 governorship election, was recovering from an illness, Bishop Emeka Michael Nwankpa, the Accord governorship candidate, has prayed to God to extend his healing hands upon him for a quick recovery to full health and advises other contestants to desist from celebration others’ pain in the name of politics because no human is immune to Ikonne’s present unfortunate state.
Recall that during a radio interview held on Monday, Governor Ikpeazu opened up that Prof Ikonne had left the hospital where he was receiving treatment. This stark revelation sparked reactions from Abians.
In Bishop Emeka Nwankpa’s words, ‘Anybody can fall sick at any time. We should not play politics with the health of our fellow humans, even if they are our political opponents. As a child of God, all I can do is pray for his healing. That is part of my job as a minister of the gospel.
“This is my true purpose to be governor of Abia State to rebuild her on the solid foundation of Christ and true brotherhood where we must uphold the ideals that set us apart as God’s children. We must feel the pain of our fellow citizens to be able to treat them as humans. This is an error we must see corrected from the roots to progress as a people. We have no excuse to celebrate other people’s pains. We were brothers and friends before politics, we will remain the same after politics” he warned.
Bishop Emeka Nwankpa praised Governor Ikpeazu for being courageous enough to tell Abians the truth about the state of health of the professor of optometry, ad icing Prof thenonne’s immediate and PDP family to remain prayerful and confident in the healing powers of God to cure all ailments.
Asked why he is praying for the quick recovery of his major political opponent, the cleric said, ‘I won’t play politics with something as sensitive as health. As a minister of the gospel, I will always pray for the sick, irrespective of who they are, whether they are my opponents or not. I am pursuing my political aspirations devoid of Ill feelings against anyone, and I am confident of victory.
“Prof Ikonne is Abian, like every other Abian I am working hard to win the election and usher in an era of good governance that will positively affect all her citizens. Suffice this to say that I need every Abian to be part of moving the state forward, only healthy citizens can make a healthy state. I need every Abian healthy for us to match toward”, he explained.
Meanwhile, the well-respected cleric and determined contestant had a few hours ago revealed plans for the flag of his official campaign in a few days.
