Following a mouth-watering report by the Nigerian Military of their gallantry and professional conduct in rooting out some gunmen operating from the thick forests behind Amangwu and Okon-Aku, the two boundary communities of Ohafia, believed to be members of Eastern Security Network, ESN, the paramilitary arm of Indigenous people of Biafra, IPOB, in a sweep operation that neutralized their four members and lead to the recovery of many materials and riffles from the group, the Abia North Youth Agenda has commended the gallant of Nigeria Soldiers for a such show of bravery and commitment to their vow to secure Nigeria territorial integrity.

In a press briefing by the National Coordinator of the group, Hon Udoeze Agwu Kalu he expressed worry that in as much as the military is doing their best to secure the area, they should be more professional in their conduct because what they are feeding the public is contrary to what is the reality on the ground as they have continued to kill Ohafia people who are not in any way connected to the said hoodlums operating from the bush who has been proved to be none Ohafia indigenes and wondered why soldiers in search of their lost personnel will occupy Amuma, Amangwu, and Okon-Aku route and community, burning down some houses and intimidating the civilian populace as if it it was of their making and fault that that the enemies of Nigeria government are lurking in their bushes, whereas they too are escaping from the same monster molesting Nigeria soldiers, caught in the middle of two armed combatants of state and none state actors.

“The first duty of the soldiers is to protect lives and properties, but what we are seeing in Ohafia is different. Our troops are not just taking lives and destroying properties, they are also punishing the people because of the said ESN operatives living behind their bushes, so instead of protecting the people, they are harassing and intimidating them. They killing part is a security aspect that must be whispered in hush tones over night fire after the community people has escaped for their lives from the invading soldiers and returned from the bushes each day. Ohafia people of Amangwu, Amuna and Okon-Aku are presently displaced and living in the bushes for fear of our gallant soldiers, not really the none state gunmen.

“It is heartwarming to know that the Military is flushing the ESN from the bushes, but they should concern their operations to the bushes and stop treating Ohafia as a conquered and captured people because they too are Nigerian citizens like the soldiers harassing them. They have a right to live.

“We are calling on human rights bodies like HURRIWA, we are begging the Abia State government to protect us, we are pleading with the Military authority to reign in their boys and instruct them to operate within confines of their rules of engagement. We have had enough, Ohafia is peaceful people, accommodating, and hospitable, but there is a limit to how far you can punish a people for an offense that is not of their making. The military is being economical with the truth because they know they are operating within the communities and burning down houses”, he said.
