A man been6 arrested for allegedly shooting an6 killing his elder brother for not paying the electricity bill in Uruagu, a community in the Nnewi North Local Government Area of Anambra State, southeastern Nigeria.
The suspect, Peter Orji, reportedly accused his older brother, Godwin Orji, of unplugging his power supply.
The incident occurred on Tuesday.
The suspect was said to have failed to pay his N1,500 monthly bill, leading the victim, who lived in the same complex, to pull the plug.
The suspect angrily confronted the victim about the disconnection.
In the ensuing commotion between the two brothers, the suspect ran into his bedroom, grabbed a rifle, and shot the victim. He died instantly.
“There had been a cold war between them. They have been arguing for some time over a land dispute,” one resident, who asked not to be identified said.
When contacted, a police spokesman in the state, Tochukwu Ikenga, confirmed the incident on Thursday night.
Ikenga, deputy superintendent of police, said the suspect has been arrested.
“The suspect’s wife was first arrested at the crime scene, after which the suspect himself was arrested,” he said. “Both are in our custody.”
“State Police Commissioner Echeng Echeng has ordered that the case be transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department for investigation,” it added.
