The Nigeria Correctional Service (NCS) has published the details and images of the 68 Boko Haram suspects who escaped from the Kuje prison.
According to a BBC Pidgin report, officials have also promised to release details of other prisoners who escaped from the facility.
PREMIUM TIMES reported how suspected Boko Haram terrorists broke into the Kuje Custody Center (prison) on Tuesday night.
The terrorists, using high explosives and firearms, stormed the facility and caused the escape of more than 800 of the 994 inmates on Tuesday night.
PREMIUM TIMES also reported that an NSCDC officer and four inmates were also killed during the attack.
Nigeria Correctional Service (NCoS) spokesman Umar Abubakar said on Wednesday that more than 400 of the escaped inmates had been recaptured while 443 remained at large. Another 16 inmates who suffered varying degrees of injuries were receiving treatment.
Approximately 24 hours after the incident, a terrorist group, the Islamic State of West Africa (ISWAP), claimed responsibility for the attack.
In a video shared by the terror group on Wednesday, many of the inmates were seen fleeing the prison as the terrorists chanted ‘Allahu Akbar’.
ISWAP is a splinter faction of the Boko Haram sect that has terrorized the northeastern region of Nigeria for more than a decade.
Africa, particularly the Lake Chad region, of which the northeastern region of Nigeria is a part, is also fighting ISWAP terrorists who are believed to be affiliated with ISIS.
