The South East Development Commission (SEDC) has officially begun its operations, marking a significant milestone in the region’s development journey. The commission’s Board Chair, Chief Emeka Wogu, expressed his gratitude to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for the opportunity to serve and commended him for fulfilling his promise to the people of the South East.

Chief Wogu, a former Minister of Labour and Productivity, assured that the commission would exceed expectations in contributing to the region’s development. The SEDC aims to implement impactful, high-value projects that create jobs and contribute to the overall development of the South East region.

The inauguration of the SEDC marks a new era for the South East region, with stakeholders expressing optimism about the commission’s potential to drive growth and development. As Chief Wogu noted, “The passing and assenting to the bill of the South East Development Commission signifies a milestone in the lives of South Easterners right from 1970′.

The commission’s leadership also acknowledged the proactiveness and commitment of the current National Assembly, led by the Chairman, National Assembly and President of the 10th Senate, H.E Sen. Godswill Obot Akpabio, GCON, and his counterpart in the House of Representatives, Rt Hon.Dr Tajudeen Abbas, GCON. He also commended the Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Hon. Benjamin Kalu, for proposing the bill to establish the SEDC

The SEDC Board members include Dr. Emeka Nworgu (Chairman), Rt. Hon. Stanley Ohajuruka (ED Finance), Rt Hon. Toby Okechukwu (ED Projects), Dr. Clifford Ogbede (ED Natural Resources, Agriculture and Rural Development), and Chief Daniel Akwari , among other.

The inauguration practically turned out to be a large gathering of South East elites, irrespective of creed and political affiliation, and rightly so, this is a sign of total acceptance of the commission and what it means for the region.
