The Labour Party has vowed to take legal action against four of its members in the House of Representatives who defected to the All Progressives Congress (APC).
The defectors, Chinedu Okere, Mathew Donatus, Akiba Bassey, and Esosa Iyawe, cited “internal crisis” within the Labour Party as their reason for leaving.
However, the Labour Party’s spokesman, Obiora Ifoh, disputes this claim, stating that there is “absolute peace” within the party. Ifoh emphasized that the defectors do not have the constitutional right to take the party’s mandate with them.
In response to the defections, the Labour Party has instructed its legal team to pursue action against the defectors and to regain the party’s mandates in line with the 1999 Constitution and the 2022 Electoral Act.
