…He has promised to collaborate closely with OMPAN to achieve this goal.
The Mayor of Ikwuano local government area in Abia State, Mr Osinachi Nwaka, has pledged to restore the confidence of the people who have suffered from misgovernance and neglect over the years. He made this commitment while meeting with members of the Abia State chapter of the Online Media Practitioners Association of Nigeria (OMPAN) during a courtesy visit to his office.
Mayor Nwaka expressed his determination to change the current situation in Ikwuano, where many people tend to identify more with Umuahia due to the perceived lack of opportunities in their own community. He emphasized the need to revitalize Ikwuano and provide the same opportunities and amenities that are available in Umuahia.
The Mayor highlighted various challenges he encountered upon assuming office, including the dilapidated state of the local government headquarters and the lack of basic office equipment such as computers, printers, and photocopiers. He also mentioned the need for improved security and the restoration of basic amenities like water supply.
Mayor Nwaka outlined the steps taken to address these issues, including the procurement of office equipment, the installation of a power generator and a transformer, as well as the completion of borehole projects to ensure water supply. He also discussed initiatives to support vulnerable groups in the community, such as individuals with disabilities and widows, through empowerment and welfare programs.
In addition, the Mayor highlighted infrastructure development efforts, including road grading and plans to revitalize sports facilities. He also revealed plans to establish a computer training center, revamp the health and educational sectors, and create economic opportunities through the development of a mega mall and event centers.
Mayor Nwaka acknowledged the support of Governor Alex Otti and urged citizens to continue supporting the governor’s administration, emphasizing the progress made within a short period.
The OMPAN representatives expressed their commitment to monitoring the activities of the government and promoting positive initiatives. They praised the Mayor for his efforts to bring about positive change in Ikwuano LGA and expressed their support for the partnership between OMPAN and the local government.
