The National Universities Commission (NUC) has officially granted an operational license to Lighthouse University, a privately-owned institution located in Evbuobanosa Community, Edo State. The university met all requirements outlined by the NUC, leading to the issuance of the operational certificate on February 22, 2024.
Under the provisions of the Education (National Minimum Standards and Establishment of Institutions) Act, Cap. E3 Laws of the Federal Republic of Nigeria 2004, the Federal Government approved the establishment of Lighthouse University. The university is now registered and permitted to operate as a private university in Nigeria.
NUC’s approval encompasses three faculties, eight departments, and 15 programs. These include mass communication, political science, management sciences, sociology, biological sciences, computer sciences, electrical and electronics engineering, and computer engineering.
Lighthouse University was established by the Gospel Light International Ministries (GLIM), led by Felix Omobude, former national president of the Pentecostal Fellowship of Nigeria (PFN). Omobude envisions Lighthouse University as a hands-on institution offering technological and management solutions, while also serving as a beacon for moral and spiritual development.
The granting of the operational license marks a significant milestone for Lighthouse University, signaling its readiness to contribute to the higher education landscape in Nigeria. With its focus on academic excellence and holistic development, the university is poised to make a meaningful impact on the educational sector and society at large.
